The Osage Casino & Hotel Giraffe Barn opened on World Giraffe Day 2018 with $1 million in privately funded improvements. Beyond the cosmetic, the renovations directly improve our ability to care for an expanding herd, just in time for the July 2018 arrival of male giraffe Ohe.
The project represents a complete overhaul of our giraffe care area. We doubled the size of the giraffes’ indoor space, added year-round viewing for the public and made improvements necessary for management of a multigenerational herd. The expanded barn features new stalls, natural substrate and a large community space. Wider doors and adjustable feeders allow the barn to better accommodate a variety of giraffe heights and sizes.
We’ve since welcomed female giraffe Mi-Na, born to mom Zoe in 2023. Zoe joined our tower in 2020, from Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium.
The Osage Casino & Hotel Giraffe Barn is an example of the Tulsa Zoo’s direction in animal exhibits and commitment to seek ways to do more for the animals in zoo care. Our focus is on providing optimal space and amenities for our animals, our staff and our guests.
